A Free and Simple Turn-Based RPG

The Nine is a free-to-play role-playing game, which has been developed by D&D Dream Corp. It provides players with a classic, turn-based RPG experience, set within a fantasy world that includes five different regions, 21 different playable heroes, a range of different quests and a variety of enemy monsters.

Simple Graphics, Fun Gameplay

The game makes use of simplistic graphics, but the visuals may appeal to fans of the older Final Fantasy games, or other classic RPGs from the NES and SNES eras. In total, The Nine features 30 monster variants, 10 bosses and 10 different stages. New playable characters can be unlocked in-game, although unlocking some of them can be a grind. Like most RPGs, the game has a level up system, as well as skill upgrades.

Classic RPG Action

Ultimately, The Nine provides players with classic, turn-based RPG action and a large cast of characters to get to know. The battle system is enjoyable, easy to get to grips with and offers some unique qualities, and although the game lacks the kind of engaging, in-depth story associated with the Final Fantasy series, it will still appeal to players familiar with the series, as well as having plenty to offer more casual gamers.

PROS

  • Enjoyable, turn-based battle system
  • Large cast of characters
  • Simple gameplay will appeal to casual gamers
  • Reminiscent of old Final Fantasy games

CONS

  • Lots of grinding required
  • Graphics are very simplistic
  • Lacks a truly compelling story
  • Spell books are under-powered
